Leveraging the Legacy
28 August 2012
BSI has today published, ‘Leveraging the Legacy’, a report examining the impact of the Games on the meetings and events industry. The report considers whether the hype following the success of British Athletes will be enough to ignite the industry.
The key findings reveal that:
• Economic factors will override any effect because meetings and event professionals refined their procurement processes during the recession
• London’s event venue landscape will not be significantly impacted, with relatively few new event venues and most either expanded existing or temporary venues
• It will provide fresh impetus to corporate home working programmes
• Upgraded transport infrastructure will be key to the industry’s legacy
Jim Quintrell, BSI’s head of MICE product said “The stunning delivery of the Games has showcased the industry’s event planning, creative and logistical skills. On the back of the successful Royal Wedding and Jubilee celebrations and London’s transport network defying sceptics, we believe that the UK and London in particular, will become a global meetings and events destination of choice.”
